Foto Friday: Hiking into 2015

So to ring in the new year my roommate & I decided to go for a hike/stroll on nearby Teddy Roosevelt Island. Neither of us are too into football & wanted to do something active (but not too active, ha) to start the year off right. Me being me, I couldn't help but take, and later edit, a few pictures with my iPhone along the way.

It was a nice, easy walk and long enough to feel productive but the island is small enough we didn't need to bring any water or worry about having to find our way back off of it. It's definitely pretty in the starkness of winter but we already decided to come back in the lush spring and summertime to see how different it looks.

Oh hey Teddy! Thanks for sharing your island with me!

Foto Friday: Smithsonion Roses

So there's a rose garden outside the Smithsonian castle. I discovered it when rushing past it every kickball game this spring, jogging by to make it to the game on time, wishing I could snap a few pictures. I normally get out of work too late to do so, and would shoot a longing glance at the garden between checking my watch and trying to find my team on the national mall.

Luckily, a tornado watch and power flicker got me out of work early last week (I know, counter-intuitive to leave a building to go run in an open field during a potential tornado time but we all survived, so lesson not learned I guess), and I was finally able to get some pictures.

These were my absolute favorite, they reminds me of flowers in a Van Gogh come to life:

Now add some Picasso "Blue Period"

I'm always astonished by the simple beauty of flowers. Some people have sunsets, some people have vistas, some people have the ocean, and while those can equally take my breath away, the everyday flower, when examined more closely is such a reminder of The Creator's intention and design in such detail, it's easier to start seeing the other beautiful things surrounding me in the world (plus having professionally cultivate gardens I can visit which are so gorgeous  just makes it seem a waste not to photograph them)

Thanks for letting me share my mini-obsession with you!

Foto Friday: N-Ice Winter

So after 2 mild-ish winters, the DC Area has been hit relatively hard this past winter with plenty of snow and ice, as evidenced by many a snow-themed Foto Friday.  This past week, we had a pretty neat ice-storm that luckily melted pretty quickly before clogging up the roads too much.  Here are some moments I was able to capture before it all melted away.

The last three pictures are the nifty ice-fractals on the roof of my car. They remind me of ice-bergs breaking up in the ocean, or the desolate landscape of a foreign planet. If I hadn't told you what they were, could you have guessed?

Foto Friday: Snowy Nights

Last night winter storm "Hercules" swept up the east coast, blanketing the landscape with snow and bringing extreme winter chills.

Considering it got up to almost 60 the day before, it's safe to expect the unexpected this year (and we're only two days in!!)

Here are some photos I snapped wih my iPhone 4S & edited in Canera+ of the magical effects of snow (especially over Christmas lights):
