HAPPY FLAG DAY!

Did you know, today is FLAG DAY!?!? (cue singing, marching salute-dancing "You're a grand old flag...")
It is also the 237th (but who's counting?) birthday of the US Army!!

I think that should mean FREE Red, White & blue marble cake topped with strawberries & blueberries for EVERYONE!
a'la this little gem from July 4, 2010 (it's become a July 4 tradition for my sisters and me!

Since I have no time to make it, the first person to volunteer to do it (and bring me some) wins a GIANT HUG! ... what? no takers? darn.

Since I can never escape the law in this BarStudySummer2012, In honor of Flag Day, today's post is brought to you by Chapter 1 of Title 4 of the US Code, which, as you may have guessed, is dedicated to the US National Flag (super exciting right?

Not only does it lay out the proper heights at which a flag should be raised off the ground based on its dimensions, (eh, kinda boring) but it also talks about when a star shall be added to the union of the flag after the admission of a new state into the union (which is of course the following fourth of July). Just in case we ever decide to fully annex Puerto Rico, or maybe make the moon the 51st state (both pretty doubtful), you'll know how to do it right.

Also: According to this code it is technically illegal (and can sometimes be pretty tacky) to wear the emblem of the flag as clothing.  But don't worry, the Code is actually all bark & no bite (no enforcement) so if you walk around wearing these:

these:

the only fine you'll have to worry about will be from the fashion police =)
